LinkedIn Group

LinkedIn Group Overview

LinkedIn Groups provide a place for professionals in the same industry or with similar interests to share content, find answers, post and view jobs, make business contacts, and establish themselves as industry experts.

Only for LinkedIn members to join, yet discussions in Open Groups can be accessed by anyone on the web.

There is a Groups Directory.

Here a list of Best Practices for LinkedIn Group Managers, useful also for group members.

During 2011 LinkedIn introduced the Open Group. In a group that becomes open, the prior discussions are no longer visible. There is however a way to relaunch them:

  • Select tab Discussions,
  • under your picture, select Your Activity,
  • in the Member block, select Discussions You've Started,
  • Select ''Go to Archive'' (below the list of Discussions you have started)
  • Select the archived discussion that you want to repost in the open group. In the ''More'' menu, select ''Share link,'' select Post to groups, and add the group's name. Then ''Share'' to relaunch the discussion. Success!

There are a number of features of LinkedIn that one had better be aware of before contributing "'valuable content:"

  • copyright rules
  • The one who has started a discussion (asked a question) can wipe out all comments (answers)
  • The closed to open group transition
